Leopard Hill campfire

Leopard Hill is located in the heart of the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, part of the Masai Mara ecosystem and next to a waterhole where savannah wildlife come to drink. From your private terrace, you can experience the wild nature of Africa from the first floor. A completely unique feature on Leopard Hill is that you can open up from your tent and admire the African night sky before you fall asleep. A safari that is created to take into account people, nature and the environment.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1: wildlife-at-masai-mara-kenya-8-1000×665

On arrival in Nairobi you will be picked up and transported by your own driver to Wilson Airport, from where you will fly to Leopard Hill in the Mara Naboisho Conservancy. Mara Naboisho Conservancy is 50,000 acres of virgin wilderness. After you arrive at the camp, you let the place and the tranquility embrace you, and soon there is time for lunch. After lunch, you might take a stroll and get to know the place and your home for the next few days. If you fancy an afternoon gin and tonic, there is polite self-service at the bar. Enjoy the view and the animals that pass by the camp area. An afternoon safari is also arranged before you return to the camp for dinner and relaxation – perhaps with some good stories in that the night announces its arrival.

Day 2: wildlife-at-masai-mara-kenya-17-1000×686

The day starts with a beautiful African sunrise and you have to get up early. We are going on a game drive in the bush, and Mara Naboisho offers an amazing diversity of animals and birds, including endangered species such as the black rhino. After the excursion you return to the camp for lunch, and then there is free time to enjoy the view – remember to bring good binoculars!

Afternoon tea is served, followed by an afternoon safari at the Mara Naboisho Conservancy. Your guide is a local guide from the Masai people. Along the way, there will be a break with a sundowner drink. After a few more hours in the bush, you return to camp for dinner, relaxation and maybe a cold beer by the campfire.

Day 3.: game-drive-masai-mara-7-1000×667

We get up early to go on a morning safari. Your guide will take you through the savannah in search of the great predators – if we are lucky, we will meet a lion family. Lunch in the camp – or give it your whole arm and go on a balloon safari in a hot air balloon followed by a champagne lunch!

After lunch, you may enjoy the serene surroundings of your terrace, or enjoy a massage.

In the afternoon you can also choose to go on a safari on foot, where you typically take a break in a place with a nice view to enjoy a cold refreshment.

Dinner in the camp, and maybe you end the day by quietly looking at the dark evening sky from your own tent, where the tent canvas can be folded back so you have a clear view of the sky and later the stars.

Day 4.: game-drive-masai-mara-9-1000×667

Today we are going on a full day safari in the Naboisho Conservancy. The day begins with an early morning game drive, where your guide takes you to areas where you can see large herds of grazing animals – and if we are lucky, also geopard and leopard, which often hide in the acacia trees of the savannah, where they ponder , how to catch today’s lunch.

Lunch along the way, often under an acacia tree which provides pleasant shade here in the middle of the day, when the sun is strong.

Finally, there is arrival at the camp in the late afternoon, where a sundowner before dinner ends this formidable day.

Day 5.: game-drive-masai-mara-13-1000×667

This is your last safari day. Choose between going on a hike or going on safari in a 4×4 jeep. If you would rather spend your time enjoying the camp, getting a massage or practicing yoga, you can too. Lunch at the camp and then there is time to gather things together and leave the camp. You will be driven to the Naboisho Air Strip to fly on to Nairobi.

Basecamp, Masai Mara & Naboisho, Kenya:

Your visit here supports sustainable tourism development and help the camp to can further invest in the best and most environmentally friendly and high-tech solutions. All electricity for heating, water technology, water heating and lighting comes from solar panels. Closed septic tanks are used for the toilets. All waste is sorted and materials are recycled and recycled from here as long as is practically possible. All organic waste is composted and used to improve the soil at the camp – including in Obama’s tree plantation. Water for the plantation comes from wastewater from baths, dishes and laundry. This water can easily be used for the purpose, as you only use environmentally friendly soap, dishwashing liquid and washing powder on site.

Many of the adventures you will experience happen on foot along with guides from the Masai people. You will gain a deeper understanding of the conditions of life in this part of Africa, the culture and how nature is part of people’s everyday.

Your trip contributes to the local economy, as 85% of the employees at Basecamp come from the local area. The camp invests in social programs to improve the area’s water supply, health, education and culture. Through Basecamp Maasai Brand, the camp empowers the local Maasai women to support their households and send their children to school. With support from camp the local Masai women have started a shop where they produce and sell traditional and high quality Masai jewelry.

A healthy natural environment is the community’s most important resource, so great emphasis is placed on preserving and protecting it. The camp works actively with tree planting, and run a nursery where over 80,000 new trees have been planted over the years – that is equivalent to about 20 hectares, simultaneously making the camp operations carbon positive.

The camp promotes conservation of the world’s most important wildlife area, the Masai Mara–Serengeti ecosystem. The Mara Naboisho Conservancy protects a 26,000-hectare wilderness area, owned by a total of 500 owners. We want to support a model where you jointly preserve and develop the area, so that tourism not only provides cash benefits now, but will continue to be a key part of the area’s economy – something that can only happen if you treat the area with respect for both people, nature and wildlife.
