Only 45 minutes from Ålesund. Here you can relax, recharge and reunite with nature. Dressed in hand-carved logs and topped with a green roof, Storfjord Hotel is an encouraging sight at the end of your day’s journey.

A welcome cocktail awaits you in the Lavvu – a traditional Sami tent set up deep inside the pine forests that surround the hotel. Here you get the chance to meet other guests and get an explanation of some of the highlights of the journey ahead. Overnight at Storfjord hotel.

Drive north toward Atlantic Ocean Road. Your car will be packed with a Storfjord picnic basket complete with local ingredients, cheeses, charcuterie, berries and champagne. This dramatic crossing is a technical marvel as your car seems to fly across the Atlantic as you meander from island to island. On the return journey you will see the Sunnmore peaks sinking into the horizon. This will be your playground for the next few days as your adventure goes deeper and deeper into the fjords. Overnight at Storfjord Hotel.

Day 3. : view-on-troll-road-in-Norway-1199447768_4000x2670

Head out to Romsdalsfjällen. The first stop at Trollväggen is the perfect place to stop and enjoy the pastries packed by the kitchen while looking up at Europe’s highest rock wall. As you move deep into the mountains, Trollstigen will appear and show the winding road to the top. This is one of the most magnificent vantage points in Norway.

Day 3. : Geiranger fjord

Drive down into Valdalsdalen which leads you back to the fjord. A ferry to Stranda gives you a glimpse of what to expect when the fjords become narrower and deeper. Be sure to stop at the vantage point between the tunnels to look directly into the gaping abyss of the Geirangerfjord. Destination: Hotel Union Øye – A historic royal oasis at the end of the valley where you will stay for a few days.

Day 4.: Stryn

After a royal night’s sleep and local breakfast, the quiet roads meander to the west when the fjords seem to be left behind you. Soon you will trace the coastline towards Stryn, the perfect opportunity for lunch and a trip up the gondola for incredible views out to the North Atlantic. As you drive further inland, the fjord village of Geiranger will get closer and closer. Embark on the ferry, sit back and enjoy the slow journey through the most magnificent fjord of them all with waterfalls rushing from the mountain tops. Get off at Hellesylt and drive on to Union Øye.

A fantastic experience awaits you at the hotel. You and your parnter sit down surrounded by books about alpine history in Union Øye’s library. These books are some of the first editions of the greatest adventure in history and here you will create your own moment for the memory bank.

While the fire crackles in the background, your private waiter will serve a delicious meal prepared with the region’s best products and paired with some of Europe’s finest wines.

Day 5. : Sjøkreps_PhotoCredit Eric Ellioth_62NORD

A visit to the Sunnmore region would not be complete without celebrating the incredible shellfish that have been the backbone of the region for generations. An island off the west coast pays homage to the vibrant seas and a 5-course menu is the golden pot at the end of the rainbow today. The return journey goes along Storfjorden when you return for a festive last meal with friends. * There is the possibility of a return trip in a RIB boat. Overnight hotel Union Øye.

On your last morning, you will change tires for wings and go to the skies for a flight over the roads you have driven on during the week. This trip gives you an incredibly immersive experience when the helicopter weaves in and out of the fjords and buzzes over idyllic mountain peaks. A driver will be ready to take you to Ålesund Vigra Airport and when your flight climbs away, we hope that the view of the mountains and fjords will be a lasting reminder of your driving adventure.
