The owners and staff at 29I2 Aurland are passionate about nature and the future. Their vision is for Fjord Norway to become the ‘green heart of the world’ – so they start with their own. The hotel is eco-certified and has developed its business based on Norwegian ecotourism principles, which means that tourism should protect nature and culture and benefit the local community. They want the carbon footprint to be as small as possible, which is why they offer so-called “soft” adventure activities where you can cycle, kayak, hike or ski, but at a slightly slower pace.
They take guests hiking in the mountains and in the surrounding area and tell the story of the people who live here and those who lived there before them.
They teach fly fishing in the river.
They light a campfire and prepare and eat our lunch outdoors.
They serve local organic food.
They visit old summer pastures and mountain farms to give guests a real taste of Aurland.
They visit artisans and storytellers who know the culture and history of Norway.
They have an electric car
They offer guests free bicycles
They have their own kitchen garden, orchard and compost
They recycle waste.
They like to reuse things, which is reflected in the textiles, architecture and furniture on the farm.
They avoid plastic.
They use local guides.
They ask that guests stay at least two nights.
They act locally but think globally.
