Loisaba Tented Camp : Somna i en Starbed på Loisaba, Kenya

As the Loisaba Conservancy is very close to the equator, you have an adventurous night sky to look at. A unique experience here is that you can sleep in handmade so-called Starbeds – a four-poster bed on wheels, which is rolled out on a slightly elevated terrace. Here you fall asleep under the endless starry sky and with the night sounds of the savannah close by. There is also a cozy restaurant / dining room, a living room and a breakfast terrace.

Your guides come from the local tribes of Samburu and the Laikipia Maasai Warriors – a unique encounter with a completely different culture.

Safari: Gamedrives04-1030×687

The best way to experience nature and animals is to go on safari in a converted Land Rover. You can go on safari either early morning or later in the afternoon. Your guide is always certified by KPSGA (Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association).

Loisaba Wilderness is a sanctuary for more than 260 bird species and 50 species of mammals. Elephants, buffalo, zebra, kudu and of course the big cats also live here. Both biologists and other researchers from several countries work in the area. It is possible to set up a meeting with the researchers to learn more about conservation for in the area.

Hiking safari: Bushwalks02-1030×687

Another way to experience nature is by hiking with a local guide. Here you get even closer to nature.

Riding: Horseriding01-1030×687

A completely unique experience: ride next to a herd of zebras, a giraffe family or past hippos who curiously look up from the waterhole.

From the horse’s back, it is possible to get even closer to the animals of the savannah, and the horses have for many years been trained not to react to them by fleeing. But you have to be a relatively trained rider to ride out here.

Camel riding: Camelriding01-1030×687

The traditional way of transporting oneself here in the northern part of Kenya, and a good way to experience the landscape, is from the back of a camel. Shorter or longer camel rides can be arranged. Maybe take a walk along the river, stop for a break or go for a swim.

Cultural experiences: Culturalvisits04-1030×687

For a cultural experience, stop by the local Samburu town. Here women make jewelry, live as you have done for generations and the atmosphere of relaxed and friendly.

Other activities: Snifferdogs02-1030×687

Try mountain biking or join  a walk with the local sniffer dogs and their dog handlers. Understand how the dogs train in order to track poachers.
