Tips for your journey

Good to know about the Laikipia Highlands: Enasoit is located in the Laikipia Highlands of Kenya – a rich and diverse natural treasure home to some of Kenya’s most extraordinary and endangered wildlife and vast, pristine wilderness areas.

The camp and the surrounding conservancy are situated within a natural wildlife corridor, and the animal density and biodiversity are exceptional. Guests can explore the conservancy on horseback, on foot, or by vehicle, always accompanied by experienced guides, or simply watch the wildlife stroll past from your veranda – enjoying both the tranquility and thrill of a safari without seeing any other visitors.

Travel Etiquette: In Laikipia, water is a scarce resource, so please use it sparingly. The Samburu and Maasai are proud people; always ask before taking photographs. Bring small denomination bills in local currency to purchase local handicrafts in the villages. Shake hands with those you meet – it is a customary sign of courtesy here.

Mobile Network and Email: Email and internet access are available at the camp. The mobile network works well.

Time Zone:  GMT + 3

Vaccinations: Read more about required vaccinations here.

Packing: Someone once said that “Africa is a cold continent blessed by a warm sun…” Days can be extremely hot while nights can be cooler. Average annual temperatures range between 18°C and 30°C (64°F – 86°F). You will want to bring sweaters for the morning and evening, as well as both long pants and shorts, and sturdy walking shoes. Clothing colors should blend into the environment as much as possible, so choose shades of green, brown, khaki, or earth tones characteristic of the African landscape. Bring a waterproof jacket, a hat, and sunglasses. Soft duffel bags are easier to pack in safari vehicles; if taking domestic flights, the maximum baggage allowance is 15 kg (33 lbs) per person. Mosquito nets are provided, but feel free to bring mosquito repellent.

Local Currency:  Kenyan Shilling

Please Note:  Kenya has implemented a ban on single-use plastic bags, which is strictly enforced at customs. Bringing plastic bags into the country can lead to heavy fines.

Weather:  Samburu Weather

Water: Safe drinking water is provided at the camp.

Safety:  Your safety is our priority. In Nairobi, do not walk around alone at night, avoid certain downtown areas, and stay away from large crowds.

Families traveling together can submit a joint application. Apply at least 3 weeks before departure… Find out more here: Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA)

Wildlife trophies: Kenya takes a strict stance against all forms of poaching and trafficking of wildlife products. Under Kenya’s Wildlife Act, it is illegal to collect or remove any bones, horns, teeth, etc., from the savanna, as well as large shells from the coast. Leave what you find where it belongs. Being caught with such items in your luggage can lead to substantial fines and lengthy prison sentences.

Travel entry requirements: : When departing from Sweden, you must ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your return journey and that there are 2 blank pages remaining for visa stamps.

All travelers to Kenya must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) as well as mandatory traveler health insurance (new as of October 6, 2026) and be approved to visit the country. This is done on their website by following their instructions (applicants should have their passport, travel details, and payment card ready). The price is 30 USD per person (including children) + a small administrative fee for the eTA, and 44 USD per person (including children) for the health insurance. If you are traveling as a family, you can apply together. Apply at least 3 weeks before departure.

  • Among other things, it must cover emergency medical expenses, medical evacuation, and repatriation. It is mandatory regardless of whether you already have comprehensive travel insurance.

PLEASE NOTE that the above may change at short notice, which is why it is important that you keep yourself updated. Ecolyx strives to keep updated to the best of our ability.

How does my trip contribute?

This product meets our requirements for Ecorating, a product that is good for humans and the environment.

All proceeds from Enasoit Camp go directly to supporting the management, protection, and preservation of the Enasoit conservancy’s unique ecosystem. Conservation is at the heart of everything they do, and by choosing to stay here, you contribute directly to these conservation efforts. In addition, Enasoit Camp is powered entirely by solar energy, ensuring that its environmental footprint remains exceptionally low.

Enasoit is situated in Kenya’s wildlife-rich Laikipia Highlands and is part of a larger conservation success story that depends on close cooperation among local communities and stakeholders.

Laikipia boasts remarkable biodiversity. There are over 550 recorded bird species in Laikipia, including 10 globally endangered species. Researchers believe there is no place on Earth with a higher density of large mammal species (over 3 kg / 6.6 lbs), including 7 internationally endangered species: the African wild dog, reticulated giraffe, lion, cheetah, savanna elephant, Grevy’s zebra, and black rhino.

Enasoit serves as a crucial wildlife corridor within the Laikipia ecosystem, vital for the free and secure movement of these iconic species. Enasoit rangers work tirelessly every day to protect the conservancy’s habitat and wildlife. Several special initiatives are also underway, including an indigenous tree project that establishes “exclusion zones” and plants saplings to shield vulnerable plant and tree species from elephant damage and climate impact, alongside an environmental scholarship program providing secondary education and mentorship to local children with a passion for conservation.
